mAadhaar App: Download Masked Aadhaar on Your Phone (Android & iOS)

The mAadhaar app is UIDAI's official mobile Aadhaar wallet. Once installed, it stores a signed copy of your Aadhaar profile (including the masked version) that you can show at airports, hotels, or any KYC counter — no internet, no PDF, no printouts.

Install the official mAadhaar app

Only install the app whose developer is listed as Unique Identification Authority of India. Fake clones exist — check the developer name before installing.

  • Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=in.gov.uidai.mAadhaarPlus
  • iOS: https://apps.apple.com/in/app/maadhaar/id1435469474

App size ≈ 40 MB. Works on Android 5+ and iOS 12+.

First-time setup

  • Open the app → allow SMS + phone permissions (needed to auto-read OTP)
  • Set a 4-digit app password (used every time you open the app)
  • Tap Register Aadhaar → enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number + captcha
  • Enter the OTP sent to your registered mobile
  • Your profile is now saved locally (encrypted) on the phone

Download and share masked Aadhaar

Once your profile is registered:

  • Home screen → tap your profile card
  • Tap Share Aadhaar
  • Choose Password-protected PDF or QR code
  • Toggle Masked Aadhaar on ✅
  • Share via WhatsApp, email, Bluetooth or save to Files

The shared PDF carries the same UIDAI digital signature as the desktop download.

Other things the app can do

  • Order PVC card (₹50) directly to your address
  • Retrieve EID / UID if you've lost your Aadhaar number
  • Update address online using a valid address proof
  • Lock / unlock biometrics — highly recommended for privacy
  • Generate Virtual ID (VID) — a 16-digit temporary token you can share instead of Aadhaar
  • Verify email / mobile without visiting a centre

Troubleshooting

  • OTP not received: check that your registered mobile number is active and has network. Try again after 60 seconds.
  • 'Invalid Aadhaar': your card may be temporarily locked. Unlock biometrics on https://myaadhaar.uidai.in.
  • App crashes at register: clear cache, or reinstall from the official Play Store / App Store link above.
  • Multiple profiles: mAadhaar supports up to 5 profiles per device — useful for family members.

FAQs

Is the mAadhaar app safe?

Yes — it's the only Aadhaar app published by UIDAI itself. Data is stored encrypted on your device and requires your 4-digit PIN to access.

Can I share masked Aadhaar from mAadhaar via WhatsApp?

Yes. Use the Share Aadhaar option, choose Masked, and pick WhatsApp. The receiver still needs the PDF password (first 4 letters of your name in caps + YYYY).

Does mAadhaar work without internet?

Once your profile is registered, viewing and sharing works offline. Registration and OTP-based updates need internet.

Is mAadhaar accepted at airports?

Yes — mAadhaar is officially accepted by CISF at all Indian airports as valid photo ID for domestic travel.
