Birth Certificate Download Online: CRS Official Guide (2026)
Under the Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Act 2023, birth certificates issued via the Civil Registration System (CRS) at https://crsorgi.gov.in are the single accepted digital document for school admissions, passports, Aadhaar enrolment, and voter ID. Here's the official download and correction flow.

Download a certificate (already registered)
1. Open https://crsorgi.gov.in 2. Click Login → General Public Sign-up if first time (mobile + email) 3. After login → Search Birth (or Download Certificate) 4. Enter Registration Number, Date of Birth, State, District 5. Verify OTP → click Download Certificate

Register a new birth (within 21 days — free)
1. Sign up at https://crsorgi.gov.in as General Public 2. Click Report Birth 3. Fill: date/time of birth, place (hospital / home / other), parents' names, address, Aadhaar of parents 4. Upload hospital discharge summary or midwife's letter 5. Submit — the local Registrar approves within 7 days 6. Download the certificate once status = Approved
Delayed registration (after 21 days)
- 21–30 days late: Small late fee (usually ₹2–10), Registrar approval
- 30 days–1 year late: Fee + written permission from District Registrar
- After 1 year: Order from a First Class Magistrate + affidavit + hospital record / school leaving certificate / voter records
Apply at your local Municipal Corporation, Nagar Panchayat, or Gram Panchayat — the same office also uploads to CRS.
Corrections in name / DOB / spelling
1. Log in at https://crsorgi.gov.in 2. Search your record → click Correction 3. Upload supporting documents (Aadhaar, school leaving certificate, hospital record) 4. Pay correction fee (₹50–100) 5. Registrar reviews and issues a corrected certificate
For major changes (parent's name, place), you may need a District Registrar or Magistrate order.
State-issued vs CRS certificate — which do you need?
The CRS-issued digital certificate is accepted everywhere — passport, Aadhaar, school, college, government jobs. State portal certificates are also valid but crsorgi.gov.in is the recommended single-source-of-truth. If a school or office insists on 'municipal certificate', download from the state portal listed above.
